Hot Cross Buns

What are the two most iconic Easter treats? Chocolate and Hot Cross Buns of course! With that in mind, do we have a treat for you?! We’ve combined those who magical ingredients to come up with our very own Goupie-tastic recipe. It’s full of all the good stuff: raisins, citrus peel, spices, and of course, Goupie. Not only that, but these Hot Cross Buns are completely vegan friendly and dairy-free!

Hot Cross Buns

What You Need

50g + 20g Margarine (melted)

100g Caster Sugar

7g Dry Active Yeast

150ml Warm Water

100ml Almond Milk

450g + 50g Plain Flour

1tsp Baking Powder

1tsp Mixed Spice

1tsp Cinnamon

1 Pinch Of Salt

x1 Orange (zested)

120g Mixed Fruits (raisins and citrus)

120g Ginger Goupie

2tbsp Marmalade

Hot Cross Bun Recipe

What You Do

Combine the melted margarine, milk, warm water, sugar and yeast. Add the flour, spices and salt and kneed for 10 minutes.

Leave to rise for an hour (the dough should double in size).

Chop the Goupie into small chips and combine with the dough along with the mixed fruit and orange zest.

Leave to rise for an hour.

Split the dough into 15 similar sized balls and arrange on a tray.

Combine the remaining flour and margarine. Add water until a dough forms. Roll this out thinly and cut long strips to form the crosses on top of the buns.

Leave to rise for an hour.

Bake on 200 oC for around 20 minutes.

Heat the marmalade until it becomes thin. Brush this on top of the buns.
